How cities keep control of their data with CIVITAS

As part of a consortium, we are developing V2 of CIVITAS/CORE for Civitas Connect e. V. – the open data platform that municipalities support jointly. Fully open source, published on GitLab.

Starting point

Municipalities want to bring together data from specialist systems, sensors and geodata services in one place – and keep control of it themselves.

CIVITAS/CORE is the open data platform of Civitas Connect e. V., supported jointly by municipalities. Bonn, Regensburg and other municipalities rely on it.

Implementation

As part of a consortium, we are developing V2 of CIVITAS/CORE. Together with our partners, we are responsible for a large share of the development of the open platform.

The platform brings together data from specialist systems and sensors, provides geodata services based on OGC standards and manages roles and permissions via Keycloak.

We follow the public code principle: what we develop on behalf of our clients, we give back as open source. We publish on GitLab.

  • Fully open source
  • Open standards
  • Reusable by other municipalities

Result

Municipalities keep control of their data and their platform. Other municipalities reuse what is built, without license fees.

As co-developers of CIVITAS/CORE V2, we know the platform down to the code. Our projects for municipalities benefit from this, for example the Urban Data Platform of the Federal City of Bonn.
